Are Sennheiser HD 599 headphones open-back or? closed-back?

I am often asked this question, so I thought of including these headphones in my blog to set the record straight. Sennheiser HD 599 CS headphone comes with an open back design that offers a very spacious soundstage and makes it possible to hear what’s going on outside. To help you distinguish between open back and closed back headphone designs, think of it like this: if the ear cups can be opened up then it is an open back design; otherwise if the ear cups cannot be opened due to their design or mechanics, then they are considered as close-back or closed-back headphones.

Are the HD 599 good for gaming?

The Sennheiser HD 599 sound very good when used for gaming, but the outer ear cups are not as tight/isolating as its cousin Sennheiser PC360. The headphone uses velour like fabric for covering the ear-cushions of the headphone and both sides of the headband padding is made up of synthetic leather. It is very comfortable to wear them on your ears even after listening to music non-stop for 7+ hours; I didn’t feel any fatigue during my tests. But if you happen to have large ears, then you might find that these headphones cannot properly fit around your ears.

Does Sennheiser HD 599 have Bluetooth or? NFC?

No, it doesn’t come with Bluetooth, NFC or any other wireless connectivity features. However, both the ear-cups have a detachable cable that can be used to connect these headphones to your listening device via standard audio cables like 3.5mm jack (comes along with the headphone). The good thing about using this cable is that you don’t need to recharge them and there’s no battery drain too!

How many ohms is the HD 599?

The Sennheiser HD 599 is a 75.55 ohm headphone that comes bundled with a 6 ft. long audio cable and has a 1/4 inch (6.3mm) connector for plugging the Sennheiser HD 599 to your favorite non-Sony gaming devices from PlayStation 3 or 4, PS Vita, PC/Mac, high quality portable music players (iPod).

What is the difference between closed and open-back headphones?

Open-back headphones have a more expansive soundstage and better imaging, but they leak sound compared to closed-back or sealed cans. Closed-back headphones keep unwanted noise out while producing better bass response and high frequencies. On the other hand, open-backs have an airy and spacious sound that is preferred for multi player gaming sessions involving co op games (where you can hear footsteps of your teammates) or multiplayer competitive gameplay (where you can eavesdrop on enemy positions).
